An Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ) is a designated area within international airspace where the identification, location, and control of aircraft entering or passing through that zone are required for security and safety purposes. ADIZs are established by countries as a measure to enhance their national security by monitoring and controlling foreign aircraft approaching their airspace.
The primary objective of an ADIZ is to ensure early detection and response to unknown or potential threats in the air, including unauthorized or unidentified aircraft, thereby protecting a country's sovereignty and minimizing the risk of airspace violations. Within an ADIZ, aircraft are required to provide specific flight information, such as their identification, route, and any intention to enter or exit the zone, before entering the monitored area.
